How to act

In “how to act” the administrator can define for each of the categories different action behaviors, time limits and action to perform once expired the time limit (start making screen shots or closing / blocking.

The net-MaMMa administrator can configure these action areas:

  • Scholar / Learning: how to act when the computer user runs programs classified as “Scholar / Learning”;
  • Leisure: how to act when the computer user runs programs classified as “Leisure”;
  • Dangerous:how to act when the computer user runs programs classified as “Dangerous”;
  • Unknown: how to act when the computer user runs programs not yet classified - “Unknown”;

You need to be careful not to block programs such as "Windows explorer" or security software. If you are not sure how to configure net-MaMMa, you are advised to use one of the pre-setup surveillance modes.

Scholar / Learning area:

In this zone, you may choose to take or not screen shots (as an additional assurance method), and configure the time lapse between screen shots.

A reason to take screen shots of this zone would be to sample and confirm the good reputation of the programs classified as “Scholar/ Learning”. Once you might want to do this sampling maybe you should use a long time lapse to excessive disk space usage. We would advise a 30 minutes time lapse.

Leisure Area:

This configuration is a bit more complex, comparing to the “Scholar / Learning” area. You can activate or not the control over this area by selecting or not the checkbox.

Then, the first value to choose refers to the time that the computer user has to run programs classified as “Leisure”, before net-MaMMa will start to take actions.
This feature allows you to control the maximum daily time that a computer user can play games or browse Internet.

Once this time expires, net-MaMMa will take actions accordingly to the instructions you set up. There are two alternatives :

  • Closing the program / game,
  • Taking screenshots.

Dangerous Area

This area is configured identical to the "Leisure area". There is a difference. In this area you should choose whether net-MaMMa should or not block Internet addresses classified as "Dangerous".

By default, programs and Internet pages added to the "Dangerous" area should be simply forbidden. So, the time lapse after which net-MaMMa acts should be set to zero meaning that net-MaMMa will block “Dangerous” programs before they run.

The default action for “Dangerous" programs is the shutdown of the program.
You might want to add violent games to the “Dangerous” list.

Unknown Area

The configuration of this area is identical to “Scholar / Learning” area.
The sole difference is that the time lapse between screen shots should be smaller to allow a closer follow up while the program is not yet classified.
